Step-by-Step Application Guide

Studielink Guide: Step-by-Step

Create your account, submit enrolment requests, and track your status — without missing key deadlines.

Before You Start

Have this ready:

Passport / EU ID (details must match exactly)

Your address + phone number (SMS is commonly used for verification/2FA)

Programme name + start date (usually September intake)

Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these four steps to complete your Studielink application

Step 1

Create Your Studielink Account

Option A: With DigiD

If you are registered in the Netherlands and have DigiD, log in via DigiD and your Studielink profile is created through that route.

Option B: Without DigiD

Common for international applicants. Create a Studielink account without DigiD and verify your identity as requested (this can include uploading ID and/or extra verification steps).

Step 2

Submit Your Enrolment Request

1

Log in to Studielink

2

Search for your institution and programme

3

Choose the start date (e.g. September)

4

Confirm your enrolment request

5

Save your confirmation and check your dashboard

Limits to plan around: you can apply for up to 4 programmes per academic year, with up to 2 numerus fixus within those. Numerus fixus refers to a programme that has a limited capacity with a cap on the number of students, and often comes with a selection process.

Step 3

Complete the University's Next Steps

After you submit in Studielink, many universities will email you with instructions to finish your file in their own portal (upload documents, motivation letter, portfolio, etc.).

Some universities advise submitting your Studielink request at least a week before the deadline so there's time to complete the portal steps.

Step 4

Track Your Status

In your Studielink dashboard, keep an eye on:

Status of each enrolment request
Messages / tasks (and any prompts to verify identity or update details)
Whether the university portal shows your application as complete

Tip: Studielink can look "done" while your university portal is still missing documents. So, always check both!

Common Problems (Fast Fixes)

Can't create an account / identity verification issues

Your (future) institution can often help you regain access or resolve verification problems.

Name mismatch

Use your names exactly as shown on your passport (order + spelling). Universities frequently flag inconsistencies.

Too late for visa/housing timelines

Many universities recommend applying earlier than the final deadline if you need immigration/housing support.

How StudyPath Helps
