About this program
How does your body convert food into energy? What happens in the immune system when someone falls ill? How do you research new treatment methods for a disease like cancer?
During the Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, you will study in detail the processes that take place in the human body—both in sickness and in health. During the programme you will study molecules, cells, and organs, and learn how they are interconnected. If you want to get to the bottom of what a disease is and to investigate how to treat and cure them, this programme is for you. As a biomedical scientist, you will usually not be working directly with patients—but behind the scenes you will be making all the difference.
This programme provides you with a great deal of research experience, including a four-month internship as part of a research group during your final year. For your internship you might join an ongoing study on cancer, for example, or tuberculosis.
Note: For enrolment in the 2026-2027 academic year, the Numerus Fixus will no longer apply.
